Promote Your Website by
Trading Links
Trading links ,or swapping, is one of
the most powerful ways to promote your website. It will increase
your link popularity and give you higher Page Rank in the Search
Engines results.
There are many particular opinions on the most effective way of
trading links; the general notion is this: You should
consider trading links with websites that have a very close
relevance or affinity to yours.
Do not seek to promote with concerns that have very little to do
with your enterprise; it could weaken your meaning and cost you.
As an example:
If your website sells pencils, a natural partner is a website
that sells paper. Trading links to promote your website can also be accomplished with
apparent competitors.
Let's say you sell carpentry pencils and a
competitor sells all other pencils but carpentry pencils, that
is another natural source for trading links.
There are many first, second, and third tier partners. Again,
using the pencil example above: pencils are first tier, paper is
second tier and artist's paint supplies could be considered
third tier..
Circular logic, a special consideration for Newbies:A newbie
has a special problem when trying to promote a website by
trading links; it's called "circular logic." When your
website is first indexed by the SE's, more than likely you'll
have a Page Rank of zero.
The older websites will not consider trading links because you
don't have Page Rank and (I love this!) you don't have Page Rank
because nobody will trade links with you!
Let me explain how to find your Page Rank:
If you want to see your Page Rank, install the
Google Toolbar
and look at the little Page Rank slot or field.
See the green area on the Page Rank slot? That's the Page Rank
of the website you are visiting. If you want to know the exact
number, point your cursor at it and gently approach it; a little
"tool tip" window will give you the exact number.
How credibility affects Newbies when trading links:
Since your website is so young and most of the websites you need
for trading links will have a much higher Page Rank than yours,
there will be initial resistance. Why? Because other webmasters
know your site is new and lacking in a credibility track record.
Websites come and go all the time! Folks come on the Net with
the roaring spirit of a lion; only to discover the extreme
effort required to build and promote a successful website;
definitely not for wimps! So, yes, credibility is a factor to
overcome when you promote your site.
How to build credibility while you promote your website:
Trading links is one of the most tedious and time consuming
things you'll ever do to promote your website. Since your first three months are going
to be spent with lots of experimentation; why not give
your little business a sure PR boost while doing it?
Get 10 articles and distribute them to all publishers that will
accept them. If you don't have the gift for writing, get a
professional writer to do it for you. Take two or three days to
approach all the Web Editors you can and post your articles on
the Net. That single act will be the best thing you'll ever do
to promote your site! Why?
Let me explain why::
Google, the Search Engine that developed Page Rank, doesn't
review and assign Page Rank but every 3 to 4 months. That
means
that if you get your articles published as you are testing
and building your website, you'll be a step ahead! By the time you're ready to start
link trading, you'll have a certain amount of Page Rank from the
back links in the resource box of your articles.
If you follow the above paragraph, it will do much to give you
credibility to promote your enterprise. You'll be glad you did
it!
