What is Your Motivation To Start Your
Internet Business?
Will it sustain you through all of
it?
The title above looks so obvious most folks will wonder why I
chose it. Yet and still, an honest research of the reasons you
want to start a new Internet business will reveal plenty about your final
goal and destination.
The driving
motivation pertains so much more to the small
business person
than to big corporate concerns. Big companies do it because it's a
realistic business decision. It's a no-brainer: you either get
on the Internet bandwagon, or get left behind. They've got the
resources and management structure to provide a company-wide
effort. What's your motivation?
The reason
I'm asking, is because it takes a lot more to start a new
Internet business than the desire to make money. If you look at
most successful Internet businesses, you'll find the money angle
doesn't occupy the top position in their list of priorities.
Yes, they do enjoy making money; who doesn't? However, the well
seasoned entrepreneur will tell you that other goals play an
important role.
Since a
business is made of people, it will experience many of
the
same triumphs and loses. There will be peaks and valleys. There will be good days and bad days.
Some months will be lackluster; other times, you'll be king of
the world. What will sustain you through it all?
When you read the personal biographies of self-made business
successes, you'll get a glimpse of what I'm talking about. When
they encountered upsets, they didn't walk away; they stuck it
out because they love
what they do.
Their
sustaining personal motivation - above and beyond the money -
gave them the strength and the edge to start a new Internet
business. They've weathered all the storms of adversity based on
that quality. The enterprise is defined and shaped by it; it
instills meaning into every area of their business. The thought
of surrender is never a part of the equation!
All the
preceding should give you good enough reasons to pause and
consider your motivation to start a new Internet business. Look
within yourself and latch onto something you would love to do;
something you would do even if you never made any money.
It will
provide your business life with meaning and direction. You'll
never grope in the dark, looking for the next step.
