Designing Your Ebook Cover
Do you really need an outstanding ebook cover?
A well-designed cover can mean the difference between success and failure. Research shows that buyers will probably visit your sales page three or four times before clicking the 'buy' button and an attractive ebook cover is a significant factor in their final decision.
Ebooks are judged by their covers!
Studies have shown that a good ebook cover will overwhelmingly influence the viewers' perception about the quality of the content - - as much as the ad copy for a business book!
That means: great covers...great sales! But, what constitutes a great cover? Many factors. But one important point is that the cover should complement the story -- thus instantly giving the reader an insight into your ebook's story or content. Covers dramatically increase the perceived value of your ebook, especially if it done well.
Publishers of hard copy books estimate that, in a book store, they have thirty seconds or less to attract a buyer with the cover. The same thing is true with ebooks, although my hunch is your cover has even less time maybe ten or fifteen seconds to attract a buyer.
Some ebook authors claim as much as a 300 percent increase in sales with a good, professional looking cover. Even if it's only a 30 percent gain, cover design is important.
When designing an ebook covers, you should know your book description. Cover design works best when the author provides ideas or suggestions because he/she have the best idea about what the cover should look like.
The author can help you decide images, borders, font, etc, that you would like us to use when designing your cover.
Then ask yourself
these questions:
-
What kind of book
do I have here?
-
What kind of cover
would be appropriate?
-
What do I want to
convey to the customer with the cover image?
-
Do I have any
images or text that I would like on my cover?
-
Are there any
certain images that I definitely want/don't want on my
cover?
Cover Must Haves
There are some things your ebook cover must have, including:
-
A 3-D look
-
Easily readable
title
-
Your subtitle
that tells a bit more or is a sales come-on
-
your name should be visible as well; if you're not
famous or close to it, it's not as important
-
title repeated on the spine.

a good overview of what you need:

Notice
how the contrasting colors help call
attention to this ebook.
Note too that the design is simple
compared to many hard copy books.
That's because your ebook cover will
be displayed on a wide variety of
computer monitors, and maybe even
some of the tiny screens associated
with pocket pc. Display quality
varies and you want to reach as many
people as possible with your cover,
so keep it simple.
